Creating Effective Programming

District officials, school administrators, and ESOL teachers want the best for the students who attend their schools. However, many districts struggle with creating the best program to support the ELL students they serve. Many factors must be taken into account when outlining the terms for a program. Colorin’ Colorado posted an article written by The American Federation of Teachers that discusses legal rights, data-based facts, and models that show reasons and evidence to support a school’s ESOL program or call for program change.

Peel Schools shows the human factor in an ESOL program is the most important aspect. Students should feel supported and welcomed. Teachers around the school need to collaborate. Administrators must understand facts behind language acquisition.
The ESL programs should allow students to receive supports that help them achieve. This video shows why students at Peel Schools need support.
Peel Schools also discusses what specific supports they provide their students.
An effective program is a collaboration between students, parents, and teachers.
